1000 people under the 601

A sea of red, white and blue greeted the honored dead as he was escorted to his final resting place at the Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. All races and walks of life; military, civilian, American, Mexican and even Germans took up the colors and stood their ground. The sound and the fury of a hundred motorcycles and the cheer of the crowd echoed under the Spur 601 highway at the entrance to the cemetery.

A thousand people stood in reverent silence when the hearse drove by; only the fading thunder of the Patriot Guard broke the silence of the moment. No Westboro Baptist Church protestors to be found. Perhaps we should thank them for drawing our community together. If they didn't hate themselves to such a degree that they have to lash out at the world, Ft. Bliss and the El Paso community might not have taken a moment to come together and honor the ultimate sacrifice this Marine made.
